Holidays in Germany (and Ecuador)

Dear readers,
there was a small lie or incorrectness in my last post, saying I would go to Ecuador for holidays. I was, but on my way back from Germany, where I was for surprising my parents, family and some friends.
The view flying over the Andes is such a beautiful thing to see!!!





Arriving in Germany i headed directly to the Alpes to go hiking at the Zugspitze (highest mountain in Germany - 2962m) with my family. What a big surprise for my parents when I showed up :)

The first day it was walking through amazing green nature, valleys and rivers...

At the end of this day we were all happy to relax at a hut with a cold beer.

The second day we saw a bit of snow and had some pretty steep parts to walk.

  Y (como casi siempre) los ultimos pasos a la cumbre hice corriendo, con la bandera chilena (Somos campeones de la Copa America)!!!

It was beautiful walking these two days, as well as beeing there on top. What was absolutely not nice: the atmosphere on top due to hundreds of slippers-wearing day tourists who came up by teleferico. I love the quietness of the mountains in the Andes.











The next days in Germany I met quite some friends and also former collegues from Chile, who are now starting their live back in Germany :)

Auch meine Patenkinder habe ich besucht. Es waren viele schöne und emotionale Momente in sehr kurzer Zeit.

Zwei Wochen später musste ich aus meinem Sommerurlaub in Deutschland wieder zurückkehren auf die Südhalbkugel. Auf dem Weg über Santo Domingo und Panama hab ich (wie auch schon auf dem Hinflug) wieder mehrere Bekannte Gesichter aus Chile gesehen. Außerdem wurde ich von einer Norwegerin erkannt, die sich erinnern konnte, dass wir uns vor 2 Jahren in Chile kennengelernt hatten :) Die Welt ist ein Dorf.

Nach langer Reise hatte ich am Ende einen schönen Tag in Quito auf fast 3000m Höhe.

Dann bin ich nach Guayaquil weitergeflogen. Dort auf Meereshöhe war es tropisch warm. Auch die Früchte und Tiere waren dementsprechend :)
Fred (ok, es ist Fred 2 - nachdem Fred sich leider aus dem Staub gemacht hatte) genoss die kurze Reise...

Es passieren auch so lustige Dinge in Ecuador. Auf der Autobahn kann man ohne Probleme hinten auf dem Pickup mitfahren, Polizisten empfehlen einen auf dem Schwarzmarkt Geld zu tauschen und Securities trinken im Dienst Bier :) Maybe i'll be back one day in this beautiful different looking country.

Thanks to all of you who made me happy during my holidays. I am happy to have you on my side.

Since a week I am back in Santiago, off to new adventures on the southern hemisphere :)

Ferien!!!!

Liebe Freunde und Followers,
seit heute morgen habe ich meine ersten chilenischen Ferien... :) Nach 4 Monaten ohne Ferien richtig nötig.
Das erste Bild von der Preisverleihung der schulinternen Mathematik-Olympiade.













Und auch zum Couchsurfen hatte ich meine bisherige wintzige "Wohnung" angeboten. Hier war Laura aus dem Süden Chiles zu Besuch.

Vor einer Woche bin ich umgezogen. Ich wohne nun viel größer (allein mein Zimmer in der Zweier-WG ist größer) wenn auch etwa doppelt so weit von der Schule weg.
Meine Mitbewohnerin ist Paulina, eine ruhige und nette Chilenin.





 
The last days i have been on short trips as well! FINALLY i made it to the ocean! I was visiting chilean friends in Algarrobo and Valparaiso.


















In Algarrobo is located the largest artificial swimming pool of the world (photo below). Thanks to connections i was able to see it.

 Also passed by a funny looking building with flats...

Remember: Here it is "winter" right now ;)

Funny how things always seem to work out for me: after just half an hour in Algarrobo i already had an invitation to a barbeque with some chilean families :D

Playing football with the children and talking to the parents: in the middle of the attention ;)

So also Fred got some new friends there.

Aber hier kommt die traurige Nachricht... Fred... hat sich verlaufen... Vielleicht ist er vergesslich geworden und hat den Heimweg nicht mehr gefunden... I am sad about loosing my beloved travel mate who has seen so  much of the world... We had one last picture together before destiny splitted us apart.















The next day i was in Valparaiso. My dear friend Kati showed me around in this town known for its hills and paintings and coloured houses.

  

We passed by the new entrance of the football stadium (where yesterday Peru bet Paraguay and became 3rd place in the Copa America). We also saw nice street art pictures on the house walls in many places.

There was also a parade of green coloured Loros in the streets and other funny things.

El miercoles estuve con unos colegas alemanes en "La Moneda" - el palacio donde trabaja la presidente de Chile.

We had a tour there it a lot of history was explained to us. And here it is where I found THE PERFECT couch for Couchsurfing :) 

The text for this Couch could sound like this:
Nice historical Couch in good shape in the very center of Santiago! Close to Metro and shopping and sights. The best service all around the country as well as the safest place in Chile due to a whole bunch of guards. You have Wifi connection as well as a gym in the basement. Just don't forget to bring your sleeping bag :)

I also used the board of speakers, the very place where chileans president uses to give her speeches for television. FREEDOM AND EDUCATION FOR ALL!

Und in meinen Winterferien fliege ich unter andem nach Ecuador. Ein paar neue Fleckchen dieser Erde kennen lernen...
Mein Flug geht in 7 Stunden, ich sollte langsam fertig packen...

Chi Chi Chi Le Le Le - VIVA CHILE

Estamos en la mitad de la Copa America - y Chile ya esta en el semifinal... Vamos Chile!
Siepre veo los partidos chilenos con mis amigos chilenos... y si miren a las fotos: Tambien yo soy mas chileno que la raja! ;)











Not only because of the COPA but also in every day life i am more and more socializing with chileans. Happens already that i have so many invitations where to go that it´s difficult to decide... and one as well needs some time on his/her own...



Short talk about the weather here: It is supposed to be winter, which would mean for STGO a bit of rain, some snow in the closeby mountains... Still - it just doesn´t come... Temperatures are usually in between 5 and 15 degree Celsius. But still you catch some sunny days. So it happens i leave in the morning wearing a warm sweater and a winter jacket (look at the frozen ground on this hill - left picture) and in the afternoon i would walk around in T-Shirt!

On the other hand this lack of rain really provoces serious problems for such a big city: inversion weather with creates an incredible smog all over the city... I have known about this before, but seeing it with my own eyes makes me sick :( and actually getting sick. Like a lot of people and pupils i also suffer from the polluted air: Having a sore (and aching) throat and headache sometimes as well. During the last 2 weeks there have been several "emergency days" when cars are not allowed to be used and even a lot of industry had to be shut down to somehow reduce the smog. So it is forbidden to make fire and a lot of other things... I think the pictures speak for themselves...

Diesem Smog habe ich auch versucht zumindest für ein paar Stunden zu entkommen, wieder mal ab in die Berge. Mein neuer "Hausberg" ist der 2750m hohe Provincia. Für meinen nächsten Aufstieg peile ich weniger als 3 Stunden an :) Auch Fred war mal wieder dabei - ich weiß, dass er in den letzten Posts etwas zu kurz gekommen ist.

In der Schule läuft auch alles soweit. Gelegentliche Mehrarbeit am Wochenende durch Mathematikolympiade oder ähnliches wird dadurch leichter, dass unsere Service-Kräfte in der Schule dann echt gut auftischen *schmatz*








Meine Schüler haben wie immer mal Überraschungen parat.... Manchmal aber auch der kleinen netten Art anonym auf dem Lehrertisch hinterlegt. :)

Meine "eigene" siebte Klasse hält mich auch ganz gut auf Trab. Organisieren, Streit schlichten, Eltern treffen, Schülern ins Gewissen reden, Picknick planen, Noten machen, Fototermine usw...

Neulich musste ich zum ersten Mal Vertretung in einer ersten Klasse machen... und dann auch noch Sport!!!! Ihr lieben Kindergärtnerinnen und Grundschullehrerinnen: Meinen Respekt!!! Ich möchte auf diesen (für mich) Horror gern in Zukunft verzichten... Beweisfoto







Auch das kollegiale Verhältnis (auch unter den deutschen Lehrern) hier ist deutlich lockerer als in Dtl. Weggehen mit den Kollegen ist an der Tagesordnung, sei es zum Trinken, Fussball schauen, Tanzen oder einfach Feiern. Auch wenn wir an der Choreografie noch etwas arbeiten müssten...

Übrigens: Es freut mich auf verschiedenen Kanälen immer mal zu hören, dass ich noch nicht vergessen bin. Es soll wohl gar ehemalige Schüler geben, die sich nach mir erkundigen! Das klingt gut :)

In einer Woche beginnen hier meine Winterferien und natürlich habe ich schon Pläne. Aber davon später mehr...
